Analyze a Exploratory Paper

The Barbie doll, created in 1959, has recently created controversy because many people believe that her appearance and motivation gives young girls a false sense of beauty and what their appearance should be. The intended audience is mainly directed at women, because that is who plays with Barbie doll's and would most likely be buying the doll for their daughters also. The authors ethos is credible because she gives many facts throughout her article, and mentions that she did once play with Barbies. The pathos appeal used by the author is also very effective, since the target audience is women, and since the author claims that, "ninety percent of all American girls in the last forty years have owned at least one Barbie", they would have most likely used Barbie dolls and it would appeal to the readers emotions. The rhetorical essay is very logical because it gives three different perspectives on the issue, making it very clear for the reader. The different opinions in the essay are that Barbie is unrealistic looking and makes young girls have a false sense of what beauty is and what they should strive to look like when they are older. Barbie Doll supporters feel that she is a positive image because their are many different dolls doing many different jobs such as doctor, astronaut and veterinarian, influencing young girls that they can do anything in their lives. The author is moderate in her opinion on the Barbie Doll issue. She waits until the conclusion to tell the reader, which makes her essay much more effective.
